Things that will help Geeks turned Entrepreneurs
Its been more than a year since I have been running a business, would like to share some lessons I learned during this period
- Begin with an end - most would interpret this as having a vision/goal. But let me clarify, lets say you have written the best piece of code on this planet. Next logical question is whom are you going to sell it to? Do you have a marketing plan, a research that justifies your pricing? Do you have customer acquisition plan? My guess is at this point you don’t have an answer. Thats my point spend sufficient time in doing market research or product-market fit before you write code.
- Challenge your core-competencies - periodically figure out what you are good/bad at. Deliberate yourself to do stuff you are bad at with motto of getting better at it. In words of Joel Spolsky “Suck less each day”
- Have open mind and adapt to your market - Lot of windfall happens if you are ready for it. At the same time as they say market is more smarter than you are. So adapt or perish. You’re not Google/Apple/Microsoft so the probability that you will control markets is close to zer0.
