How many year(s) of experience you have?….

Relevant follow-up question would be in what?

Everywhere you go in India, there is a *big* emphasis on years of experience one has. While it might be a great way to weed off some from huge sea of candidates, it doesn’t make sense at all to make hiring decision purely on this factor alone.

My argument is simple, it just doesn’t translate to how good a person is for a given position. If you’re on a chair year over year warming it, it doesn’t translate to ability/chops in real world. Whats even more shocking is people would go a step ahead to negotiate more compensation based on years under belt without discounting for their incompetence.

Then the question becomes whats a right model — well I am still trying to figure it out. I am sure one cannot hire Google quality people by paying them peanuts. Will share it for sure when I find it … ;)
